Introduction

The 12th ISDEV International Development Management Conference (IDMAC2017) follows the successes of the previous IDMAC which started in 2007 with various themes related to Islamic Development Management. This annually organised conference is an initiative to encourage research in Islamic-based social sciences. This year, the chosen theme for IDMAC is Halal-Green Development Management. The conference aims to achieve the following objectives:

1. To provide a platform and opportunity for practitioners, scholars, researchers, academicians, graduate students, NGOs and others from all over the world to converge and be proactively engaged in an intellectual discourse on Halal-Green Development Management;

2. To present the latest research findings related to all issues on Halal-Green Development Management either locally or internationally, in relations to the current phenomena pervading the Muslim communities;

3. To explore new ideas and solutions for Halal-Green Development Management such as the empowerment of communities and to promote a better environment for the future generation derived fundamentally from the Islamic epistemology and worldview.

Rationale

The concept of halal and green nowadays exists in various fields. However, it only applied separately. The implementation also involves issues that are still not able to respond to things that are intangible. In fact, the formation of the concept is still too eclectic and superficial. Thus, models based on the concept of halal and green has a high potential to be developed because each concept respectively is universally accepted and dominantly adopted either by Muslims or non-Muslims globally. Specifically, for Muslims, these concepts are fundamental and recommended in Islam.

Rationally, an Islamic-based approach with Islamic philosophical underpinning is needed to develop Halal-Green models in an integrated manner. Halal-Green development management is one of the initiatives to resolve problematic issues of institutional management, production and service management, social management, economic management and environmental management.

This conference aims to address these issues by blending new, innovative, industrial liaison and practical thinking on this Islamic-based Halal-Green development management related issues.
